In a nutshell: We want you to be happy with what you buy from us, and if you aren't - you've got our promise that we'll always do whatever we can to bring you happiness.
Within reason, right? Maybe you're sad because everything in our store doesn't cost $1, or you wish our 30-day return window was actually 3 years - well, we need to have some policies and rules so we can survive as a small business.
But, we're here for you, and will always do what we can to help - maybe it's a discount on your next order, store credit for a future purchase, or just going out our way to make sure that the next item you buy from us is exactly what you want.
Whether it's the day you receive your order or years down the road, we're here to help.
What isn't covered?
Our warranty and happiness guarantee does not cover damage caused by misuse, abuse, lost items, or damage due to reasonable wear and tear of our products.
Most of our products have Care Instructions that must be followed to avoid voiding your warranty coverage. For example, any products that show major or excessive UV damage from being left out repeatedly in the sun (noticeable and excessive color fading, etc.) or damage from sharp or abrasive objects, fire/burns, chemicals, animal damage, etc. are not covered under warranty.
Special care instructions and information on our line of blankets can also be found here.
A Lifetime Warranty doesn't mean items like our woven blankets, hammocks, and apparel will last your entire lifetime, or that you're guaranteed a replacement when you wear it out after years of loving use (or abuse, that's up to you). It simply means that we stand behind the products that we make to ensure they aren't defective and will do our best to make sure you're happy for years to come.
Please note that we now sell several products that are handmade, handwoven, etc. Certain imperfections are to be expected with handmade items and are part of what gives them their unique character. We aren't able to offer warranty replacements if the issue is considered a reasonable characteristic of the handmade item.
You have our promise that our goal is always to honor our Lifetime Warranty, not search for ways to refuse it. Take care of your gear and we will always take care of you!
The goal of our Lifetime Warranty is to ensure that the product you purchase is free from defects (usually detected early on) and that it lasts you the amount of time you would reasonably expect from the item based on what it is, how it's used, what it cost, etc.
If you have a damaged product that isn't covered under our warranty (ie. you set up your hammock a little too close to that awesome fire), don't give up hope - we sell Gear Repair Patches that can easily repair most small holes and tears in products like our hammocks, backpacks, and camping gear.
Shipping Costs
We'll always do our best to look at photos of your item and determine if the issue is covered under warranty before you need to send it in for inspection. In some cases where the issue is difficult to convey in a photograph, we may need you to send the item back to us for warranty inspection at your cost.
If we determine that your product is covered under our warranty and you're receiving a new replacement product, we will cover the shipping costs to send you the replacement item as long as you live in the Contiguous United States.
If we need to ship a replacement item outside of the Contiguous United States we will need to collect payment for the shipping costs.
Discontinued or Out Of Stock Items
From time to time we may discontinue items that we sell, or otherwise be unable to offer a warranty replacement for certain items that are out of stock.
If you have a warranty issue with an item that we are unable to replace, we will offer you a Store Credit you can use towards other items in our shop.
Retroactive Happiness
In the early days at Trek Light Gear, we offered a 3-Year Warranty on our products. You may even find places on the Internet where it still says we have a 3-Year Warranty - fake news!
When we decided to make the switch to a Lifetime Warranty our lawyers and accountants told us not to make it retroactive - "Give them a reason to buy from you again!" they all cackled maniacally said. But we said, "No! Happiness First!".
And we won.
So whether you bought your product from us in our first year of business or just this morning, relax - we've got your back.
